35-Year-Old B747 Still Flying High

The wide-body Boeing 747 has long been a symbol of long-haul air travel. However, with advancements in technology, many airlines have started phasing out these four-engine giants. Despite that, one of the oldest 747s in the world remains in active service.

A Boeing 747-400 operated by Iran-based Mahan Air, which first flew in 1990, is now 35 years old. The aircraft was originally built for United Airlines in the U.S., later served with Armenia-based Blue Sky, and eventually joined Mahan Air’s fleet.

Interestingly, this aging jumbo jet mainly operates domestic flights within Iran, regularly flying routes between Tehran and the tourist island of Kish.

In an era dominated by advanced aircraft technologies, it’s increasingly rare to see such old jets still in operation. Mahan Air’s 747-400 continues to serve as a nostalgic icon for aviation enthusiasts
